Finally, a Google Pixel that doesn't look like a Google Pixel ?

Recent Google Pixel smartphones are very easily recognizable. Indeed, since the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro released in 2021, Google devices have had a horizontal bar as a photon module on the back. “Since its debut on the Pixel 6, the camera bar has become a hallmark of the lineup — so much so that today, when you think of Pixel, you probably automatically think of that sleek bar that extends across the back of the phone,” Google admits, in a 2023 article.

However, it seems that for 2025, Google is tempted to ditch the bar in favor of a more minimalist design. At least, that’s what many leaks about the Pixel 9a suggest. As a reminder, the Pixel 9a will be a mid-range version of the Pixel 9. And if Google does not deviate from its traditions, this mid-range model should be made official in May.

According to a render published by Android Headlines and OneLeaks in October, the Pixel 9a would still have horizontally aligned sensors and a flash, but without the bar. And recently, our colleagues at The Verge relayed an alleged photo of the Pixel 9a, shared by a user of the social network X, which corroborates the rumor.

Pixel 9a: what technical sheet should we expect ?

Rumors are also circulating about the technical sheet that this smartphone could have. According to The Verge, the Pixel 9a could have a 120Hz refresh rate display, a Tensor G4 chip, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. Otherwise, the camera would have a 48-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. Otherwise, the price could be the same as the Pixel 8a’s price at launch. But since all of this information is unofficial, caution is advised for now.

Google Pixel in great shape

In any case, Google is preparing the release of its next mid-range smartphone, while its Pixel range is enjoying good growth. Google is still far from selling as many devices as Samsung, Apple or Xiaomi. However, according to a publication from Counterpoint Research, the third quarter of 2024 was the best quarter ever for Google Pixel. This success could be attributed to the launch of the Pixel 9 series, which includes the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, in addition to the base model.

  • After successfully launching the Pixel 9 series, Google is preparing to release the Pixel 9a in 2025
  • Unlike other models in the series, this mid-range device is rumored to lack Google's trademark camera bar
  • But for now, caution is advised, because this information is not official
  • In any case, Google Pixel is in great shape today: the third quarter would have been its best quarter ever
