It was only a few months ago… Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Patrice Laffont died at at the age of 84 at his home in Oppède, in the Vaucluse. Although he seemed to be in good health, the former host succumbed to a heart attack. Two years earlier, in the podcast Parents d'abord, he had indicated that he would not like to leave suddenly from a heart attack. “I would like to live my death, talk with my loved ones, say perhaps what I didn't say”, he had specified.

Monday, December 9, 2024, Jean-Pierre Castaldi was invited to the set of the show Chez Jordan, on C8. When Jordan de Luxe asked him for news of his health, the former host responded cautiously. “You know, I never say that anymore because my friend Patrice Laffont, I saw him two weeks before he died. He was leaving the hospital, he had done his tests, everything was fine. So we don't say anything. My tests are fine obviously, but…”, he slipped before stopping there.

Jean-Pierre Castaldi: “We got very close”

Later in the show, it was while talking about their friendship that Benjamin Castaldi's father declared : “We filmed something in Japan. We spent three weeks on a shoot in Japan (…) And we became very close. But historically, we played pétanque tournaments together… With Jean-Jacques Bourdin, we went around the personalities (…) And I met Laffont as a young actor when he played in the films of… (laughs). He didn't stay an actor for very long. I met him at the time !”.

If they continued to see each other, because they gravitated even in the same world, Jean-Pierre Castaldi did not go to his funeral. “I was playing in the theater (…) Not only was I friends with him, but his ex-wife who became his wife again at the end of his life, she was my road manager on my tour”, he declared before assuring that his friend had no money worries at the end of his life. “He never earned enough!”, he nevertheless specified.

Saturday, September 7, 2024, the former TV star had already confided in this subject on the set of Face à Hanouna. “We had decided to meet up at the start of the school year to have dinner together. And indeed, he looked very, very fit, he assured Cyril Hanouna and his band of columnists.

Éevoking the filming of Better Late Than Never, Jean-Pierre Castaldi remembered with emotion: “I must say that, for three weeks, we were treated to a panel by Patrice Laffont in all that is funniest and all that can be worst (…) I think I saw him happy, very happy, for three weeks”.
