Disney is definitely not giving Canal+ any gifts in the cinema sector. Indeed, the company with the big ears has grabbed the broadcasting rights for the next Oscars ceremony. A true symbol in the world of the seventh art. Let's take stock.
The Oscars exclusively on Disney+
Quoted by our colleagues from Les Échos, Julia Tenret, the acquisitions and programming director of Disney+, announced during a press conference held on Tuesday, December 10: “The next Oscars ceremony will be broadcast exclusively on Disney+. We will be live from the red carpet at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 2nd for this 97th ceremony ».
And even if this event is not a tidal wave in terms of audience (it is broadcast in the middle of the night in France), it is nonetheless one of the most prestigious events of the year. The latter has also been offered by Canal+ for over thirty years now, which represents a marketing asset for “the cinema channel”.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Moreover, and as the economic newspaper specifies, this announcement comes in a very particular context. Indeed, the entertainment giant announced at the beginning of November that its contract with Canal+ would end.
From then on, it is no longer possible to access the streaming platform by relying on the offers proposed by the Vivendi subsidiary. Similarly, the French company can no longer broadcast new films from Disney studios six months after their release in theaters.
Disney wants to change the media chronology
As a reminder, Disney could quadruple its investments in French cinema. The amount of funding would increase from 13 to 55 million euros per year. The ambition is to change the media timeline. The service would like to obtain a broadcast window of nine, or even six months after the theatrical release, whereas it is currently seventeen months.
For the players in the sector in France, this would represent a boon by diversifying the sources of funding. Currently, Canal+ is the leading financier with 210 million euros per year. More information in our previous article here.
What to remember:

- The ceremony has been broadcast for thirty years now on Canal+
- This symbolic information comes in a particular context
