IN BRIEF

  • On February 10, 2023, Pierre Palmade caused a serious car accident, seriously injuring several people, and was sentenced to five years in prison on November 20.
  • Imprisoned in Bordeaux-Gradignan, he faces harsh detention conditions, but could benefit from a reduced sentence if he behaves well.
  • Pierre Palmade's detention conditions are debated, but his notoriety could offer him unique advantages in prison.

On February 10, 2023, Pierre Palmade was driving his car when he caused a terrible accident. He veered into the left lane, hitting another vehicle head-on.He seriously injured a pregnant woman, a man and his six-year-old son. His trial began on 20 November and Pierre Palmade was sentenced to five years in prison, two of which were firm. He is incarcerated in the Bordeaux-Gradignan prison and his conditions of detention are highly commented on. In the columns of France Dimanche , a guard at the establishment expressed some doubts about the comedian's incarceration.

Will Pierre Palmade be able to complete his sentence? ? It is in a six-square-meter cell, with a rusty bed, opaque windows, water leaks, clogged toilets, and very little heating, that the comedian would be found.Isolated because of his media status, he could however be led to meet other inmates one day. Among them, rapists, killers, sexual perverts or even gang leaders. A guard at the establishment says that it will be very difficult for him to stay. “He won't hold up” , he blurted out before continuing: “He will inevitably crack”. Are the conditions of this detention the reason ?

Pierre Palmade: will he see his sentence through to the end ?

Pierre Palmade's conviction is not a surprise to anyone. The comedian himself expected it, aware of the seriousness of the facts he is responsible for. However, as the Bordeaux prosecutor's office indicated in a press release, he has the possibility of “formulating a request for a sentence adjustment which will be submitted to the decision of a judge of the application of sentences ”. Pierre Palmade could he benefit from a reduction in his sentence if he behaves well ? He can receive visits from his relatives and continues his treatment for his addictions from prison. Advantages that are not given to all.

This prison officer seems to imply that the conditions of detention are very difficult. Could they encourage Pierre Palmade to crack ? In the show Don't touch my post, Gilles Verdez had indicated that the comedian benefited from many advantages. However, people working in the prison indicate that it is entirely possible that the comedian will meet other inmates with heavy criminal records. What a mental impact and an anonymous source claims that he could end up in a “ éstate of prison shock”.

Pierre Palmade: rather idyllic conditions ?

These are very different comments made by Gilles Verdez. According to the columnist, the actor would be isolated in order to take no risks. “He can walk twice a day. He doesn't see anyone, neither on a walk nor in his cell”, he declared. He later specified that Pierre Palmade has, in his cell, “a landline telephone with prepaid cards. He can call and doesn't have a list so he can call whoever he wants”. In addition to that, he also has a television but also access to books, “what he wanted” , says Gilles Verdez. He can thus request some or go directly to the library to pick some up.

Thanks to the new law of 2023, Pierre Palmade could also benefit from a sentence reduction. It indicates that prisoners can have up to “6 months of remission per year, i.e. 12 months” Pierre Palmade would therefore be set to serve a maximum of one year, if he behaves properly. For his part, Gilles Verdez confided that the comedian would aim to make requests for release, with the hope “of having an electronic bracelet or a semi-liberty regime”, he declared. Placed in solitary confinement, Pierre Palmade benefits from significant protection, in particular thanks to his notoriety. But will he see his sentence through to the end ?
