“When I was younger, I was even thinner than I am now and very tall. I was always the tallest in my class, whether it was girls or boys, and it's not common for a girl to be very tall. Karla Bchir (Miss Côte d’Azur 2023), victim of bullying, talks about how difficult it was to go to school with a knot in her stomach. “It's important to talk about it. It's a good thing that we talk about it more because in my day, I talked to my parents about it, but I didn't want to go see the principal. I would like to be able to warn young people about the dangers of bullying and do everything I can to stop it from getting worse. Bullying is crescendo, it starts with mockery, then insults and it can come to blows.”
Miss France 2019, bullied in middle school for being overweight
Vaimalama Chaves, Miss France 2019, was a victim of bullying when she was a middle school student. When I arrived at middle school, it was very hard. I was lost in front of so many teachers, so many classrooms. I couldn't get into this rhythm. I gained weight because I couldn't be bothered to make an effort. My appearance was never a priority and I was very neglected,” she confided to Le Parisien.
Miss Roussillon 2022, “too curly”
Chiara Fontaine, Miss Roussillon 2022 was harassed about her curly hair in middle school. “I straightened my hair every morning, I had anxiety attacks when it rained. It was very hard for me”, the young woman recalls, to our colleagues at 20 Minutes. “It was taboo to talk about it at the time, today, I am proud. I want to get the message across to young people to take full responsibility for themselves and to speak out.”
Miss Provence 2021, from violence to hospitalization
At 19, Eva Navarro, aka Miss Provence 2021, took a stand against bullying at school, echoing the upheaval of her middle school years: “It was the mockery about my appearance that affected me a lot, to the point of leading to my dropping out of school for a year and my hospitalization.” The Miss Provence crown represented a “great revenge” for the young woman.
Miss Curvy 2024, mocked for her “curves”
Recently elected Miss Curvy Franche-Comté 2024, Louise Brandt from Doubs will compete for the national title in April 2025. In the meantime, the 24-year-old, who lives in Vandoncourt (Montbéliard region), will use this platform to send strong messages against the harassment suffered by curvy people, report our colleagues from l'Est Républicain.
