"Mr. Viala has chosen the RN against the Republic": the PS reacts strongly to the remarks of the President of the Aveyron Department

“La gauche à Matignon, le front républicain à l’Assemblée : voilà la solution, et elle exclut deux fois Monsieur Viala” : Bertrand Cavalerie, premier secrétaire de la fédération PS de l’Aveyron. CPA

Accused of a lack of honesty and courage, the Aveyron PS federation has expressed its deep indignation at the recent statements of the president of the Aveyron Department, Arnaud Viala.

Invited to show “courage” by “telling the people of Aveyron that they voted for the motion of censure”, the Socialist Party did not appreciate, to put it mildly, the latest statements by the president of the Aveyron department, Arnaud Viala.

Reacting to the motion of censure voted against the Government, the former member of the Republicans who recently joined the Horizons party founded by former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, had severely questioned the “honesty” and the “courage” of the Socialist Party.

“Among the political forces that claim to be part of the Republican arc, some have a rather worrying double-talk. I believe that when the Socialist Party pulls the trigger on the motion of censure and then pretends to be a stabilizing element… It is not entirely honest. Socialist leaders, including regional ones, should have the courage to tell the people of Aveyron and Occitanie that they voted for the motion of censure,” he estimated.

“His analyses always remain short-sighted”

The sentence too many for local socialist leaders who regret “a short-sighted analysis.” “Mr. Viala rightly points out that there is no government, no political majority in the National Assembly and that this may worry our fellow citizens. But contrary to what he claims, this is not the result of censorship, no, it is the result of a failed and misunderstood dissolution that acted as a slide for the far right after the European elections”, the first secretary of the PS federation of Aveyron cracked.

Bertrand Cavalerie goes even further, estimating that Arnaud Viala “made a dismaying choice”, “that of the RN against the Republic. ” “Mr. Viala deplores that in the last legislative elections, the left came together to form a common front against the far right. On the contrary, it was her pride and dignity in fidelity to her values. She was the driving force behind the Republican front that prevented the National Rally from winning constituencies in Aveyron and entering Matignon,” continues the press release.

“The socialists have no lessons to receive from Mr. Viala”

“Where was the president of the department when the Republic was at stake ? Absent! He bears the historical responsibility of having let the RN prosper in the first round and of never having called for a republican front, even going so far as to ask the Renaissance candidate to remain in the 2nd constituency at the risk of electing an additional RN deputy. Mr. Viala made a dismaying choice, that of the RN against the Republic!”

And to drive the point home: “history will judge us on our ability to have prevented it [the extreme right] from coming to power. Mr. Viala was not on the front line in this fight this summer when all the socialists had the honor of engaging in it, his first secretary, his regional president, his candidates, his regional and local elected officials, his activists and his activists. So no, the socialists definitely have no lessons to receive from Mr. Viala who seeks a little too easily to exonerate himself from his own turpitudes.”
