Volleyball: Arago of Sète is still sick

They barely saved their honour. This Sunday, in Béziers, the Sète volleyball players actually came very close to hitting rock bottom against a Paris team that, on paper, was not the favourite. It was easy to see, only Rippert managed to put a ball on the ground (2-6). A difficult reception, timid attackers: Arago had nothing to offer in the first set, as illustrated by an ace from Kleynjans after a timeout (12-18). Paris only had to take advantage of Sète's weakness (18-25).

Total breakdown

And it continued in the second set. As the scoreboard read 5-5, all the lights went out except for those in the gym. Arago was just suffering, Conde scored an ace on De Leon who exploded and then made a net fault (6-11). Cardin then Gyimah were in check on the attack, while Conde scored his third ace at 6-15… A volleyball mess that ended at 17-25, with a reception in progress that allowed Wetter to conclude.

Fortunately, Paris was going to drop and Sète, taking advantage of the entrances of Elser and Hrytsenko, raised its head. Rippert, with an important block at 18-17 and a precious offensive regularity, kept his team afloat and the set ended at 25-22 on an ace from Elser.

Carried by an omnipresent Rippert, the Sète team hammered home the point and it was the Parisians' turn to wander around the court, staring blankly (16-8). In the heat of the moment, Rippert then concluded with an ace (25-18). Alas, they had to settle for this point. Because in the tie-break, Paris was leading the dance again and Sète was one time behind (13-15).
