“At 5:30 p.m., several dozen Montpellier supporters got off their bus, before entering the stadium, armed with iron bars and other blunt objects, to violently oppose the ultras Saint-Etienne supporters located nearby”, explains the Loire prefecture in a press release.

Thanks to “consequential use of tear gas and a water cannon”, the “rapid” intervention of the police helped to stop the clashes, during which “ten Montpellier supporters were taken care of by the firefighters”.
Four police officers were injured, according to the same source. The 300 Montpellier supporters, getting off their bus before arriving at the Geoffroy Guichard stadium, “contravened the requirements of the prefectural decree of November 15” taken to supervise the match. After having joined “under good escort” the stadium's visitors' parking lot, they were evacuated “for an immediate return to the Hérault department” on the orders of the Loire prefect, who “firmly condemned these actions” .
