After the quintuple murder in Dunkirk on the weekend of December 15, 2024, a suspect surrendered and was questioned. Initially, the authorities described an ordinary young man, before uncovering disturbing elements.
After the quintuple murder in the North, the authorities are trying to identify the profile of the 22-year-old suspect, who himself surrendered to the police after the tragedy. A few days later, our colleagues from Parisien revealed some initial worrying elements.
The first information that the authorities let slip about Paul D. painted the portrait of an ordinary young man. A twenty-something who lived with his parents, with a simple lifestyle, unknown to the police… But the hidden side is chilling.

Paul D. lived with his parents in a small house in the municipality of Ghyvelde. During the search, the authorities discovered an impressive stock of weapons and ammunition.
And in particular twelve hunting rifles, several of which were equipped with scopes and more than 5,000 cartridges of two different calibers. Five other weapons had already been discovered in his car, as well as 300 rounds of ammunition.
The twenty-year-old was indeed a member of a shooting club, and had an active license until next September. However, he did not participate in any competition.
Investigation in progress
On Saturday evening, after being informed of the facts, “his parents came to the police station, they are devastated, it is incomprehensible”, explained the suspect's lawyer, Me Véronique Planckeel.
The authorities are now trying to understand what would have pushed the twenty-year-old to commit five crimes, in addition to the offense of possession of weapons. His relatives describe him as a very introverted man.
During his hearing, he appeared extremely coldto the police. The young man wanted “to explain himself to the police” but “didn't realize what he had done”, defends the magistrate.
He was taken into custody for “the acquisition, possession, carrying and transportation of category A and B weapons” and for “murders preceded, accompanied or followed by another crime” .
