La Ville de Sète a voté une motion de soutien à cette initiative portée par l’Association nationale des élus des littoraux.

This was the first item of business for the Sète city council on Monday, December 16. The elected officials were asked to vote on the motion to support the request for sea rescue to be classified as UNESCO intangible heritage. Launched by the mayor of Les Sables-d’Olonne, this initiative is now supported by the National Association of Coastal Elected Officials (Anel).

Sea rescue or just the SNSM ?

Of course, this motion was voted unanimously, but there was still a debate. Indeed, the text is not very precise whether it is “the universality of sea rescue”, as opposition elected official Laurent Hercé said, which is concerned – therefore also the action of SOS Méditerranée for example – or only the operations carried out by the SNSM stations in France. The launch of the national survey as part of this project will allow us to find out more.
