The plaque bearing the name of the former socialist mayor (from 1977 to 1989) of Bagnols-sur-Cèze and MP, Georges Benedetti, was unveiled in the presence of the former mayor Gérard Revol. C.B.

The new La Pyramide performance hall in Bagnols-sur-Cèze was inaugurated on Tuesday 17 December in the presence of the project partners, in the heart of a priority district of the city.

“Culture everywhere and for everyone! “. It was with these words that the President of the Occitanie Region Carole Delga arrived on Tuesday 17 December early in the evening in front of La Pyramide, the new performance hall in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, to inaugurate it alongside the mayor of the town and the other partners of this new cultural facility (State, departmental council, agglomeration). “The Region has subsidized La Pyramide for 1.4 million euros (1), one of the largest sums allocated for cultural facilities over the last eight years” she emphasized in her speech on the vast 120 m2 stage.

It is essential that this performance hall has been maintained in this neighborhood,I am very attached to the Republic being in all the neighborhoods […] Through this room, there will be fraternity.” The Pyramid having been rebuilt in place of the old eponymous room, in a priority neighborhood of the city, Les Escanaux, which is the subject of an urban renewal operation in which the Region is participating. “In difficult times, we must not give up on culture” continued Carole Delga, referring to the country's budgetary situation. “The Department is proud to have helped to combine urban renovation and cultural renovation” declared for his part the departmental councilor Alexandre Pissas.

“This is where many of us saw their first show”

More than a broadcasting room,“La Pyramide is a center of culture and creation“, specified Mayor Jean-Yves Chapelet on the sidelines of his speech during which he looked back on the history of the place. A cultural center born in 1962, under the impetus of the then mayor Georges Benedetti, whose name the new hall now bears. Jean-Yves Chapelet did not fail to recall the difficulties encountered in carrying out this ambitious project, the doubts and the opposition. “La Pyramide is our Notre Dame. It has nothing to envy other performance halls”.

The President of the Region particularly appreciates the rich program offered at low prices.“This venue offers an exceptional setting for artistic expression. Ambition, diversity in the cultural offering and in the audience… This fully corresponds to what I want. And it's rare to have mayors who want to create such structures in the heart of the city” she praised.

“Our political will is for this cultural center to make sense! The prices are accessible to all, Jonasz is 30 euros!” confirms Jean-Yves Chapelet who a few minutes before on stage recalled that “itis here that many of us saw our first show”. Like the president of the agglomeration Jean-Christian Rey, who shared his first theatrical emotions.

Inviting the Bagnolais to take over their new place, the mayor concluded “La Pyramide is yours!”.

The city of Bagnols financed La Pyramide to the tune of 45% of the total of 5.5 million euros; the Region to the tune of 26%; the State 16%; the Departmental Council 9%; the agglomeration of Gard rhodanien 3%.
