The decision was welcomed by many personalities: Paul Watson is a free man after being imprisoned in Greenland for five months. Brigitte Bardot, the journalist Hugo Clément and Florent Pagny were delighted with this release. After a long legal battle, the founder of the NGO Sea Shepherd has finally been released by the Danish authorities.
On July 21, he was arrested off the coast of Greenland aboard his boat while he was trying to intercept a Japanese whaling factory ship. An international arrest warrant had been issued against Paul Watson à Japan's requestdue to anti-whaling activities in Antarctica that allegedly caused damage and injuries in 2010 according to Japanese authorities. Paul Watson will now be reunited with his wife and children.

During his detention, Paul Watson was able to count on the support of his wife, Yana Rusinovich. The couple married in 2015 before welcoming two sons: Tiger (8 years old) and Murtagh (4 years old). Like her husband, Yana Rusinovich is a woman of conviction and a convinced environmental activist. “I could not fall in love with a carnivorous girl. I have a lifestyle, food and even clothing, which is in line with my ecological principles and which must be adopted if you want to live with me”, he had declared, as recalled by our colleagues at Sud Ouest.
Born in July 1981 in the former Soviet Union, Yana Rusinovich grew up in Kazakhstan before moving to Moscow and then to Paris in 2000. Passionate about music, she was a member of the Moscow and Paris Conservatories. Yana Rusinovich is vegan.
Paul Watson: who are the women of his life ?
At 43 years old, Yana Rusinovich is the fourth femme by Paul Watson, âagedé 74 years old. His first wife was a former Greenpeace activist, with whom he had a daughter, Lani. His second wife, Lisa Distefano, a former Playboy model, was Sea Shepherd’s director of operations during its anti-whaling campaigns. And his third wife, Allison Lance, is an animal rights activist and Sea Shepherd crew volunteer. They all have one thing in common: commitment to ecology.
Paul Watson will now be able to enjoy his family in France, where he now lives. It is in Marseille that the Canadian activist is preparing to spend the end-of-year holidays with his family.
