Launched in mid-October, the Mutuelle communale inaugurated its premises this Wednesday, December 18, in the heart of Antigone.
44 place du Millénaire. The advisors of the Mutuelle communale (actually attached to the Mutuelle familiale) now welcome the public in their 65 square meter premises just opposite the Hôtel de Métropole, in Antigone. Launched in mid-October, according to an election promise by the mayor, Michaël Delafosse, this complementary health insurance has, in ten weeks, 760 Montpellier members, including 205 people who did not have (or no longer had) mutual insurance.
“A social shield”
“They have gained social security, rejoices Michel Calvo, deputy mayor in charge of solidarity. Membership is beginning to spread. It is a campaign that must be built and convinced those who do not have mutual insurance.“And the elected official estimates that there are 16,000 people in Montpellier “without health coverage” in the city.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000“In 2019, I promised a social shield”, recalls Michaël Delafosse, this Wednesday morning, on the occasion of the inauguration of the agency, rented by Serm. Before giving specific cases: “For a 25-year-old part-time self-employed worker, in a classic mutual, he will pay €33 per month. €26 to the municipal mutual. A young retiree will pay €148 elsewhere, compared to €82 for his equivalent at our mutual.” And the mayor insists, even though significant price inflation is announced for 2025 at the national level, on the freezing of municipal mutual insurance rates for the next two years.
Montpellier, but not (yet?) the metropolis
“An appointment lasts on average fifteen to twenty minutes, explains Mathieu Tranchat, advisor to the complementary insurance company. We explain our four levels of cover and take the time to make a quote. We have one of the most attractive price offers on the market. This is the case for 95% of cases. And if the person joins, we take care of the cancellation with their old mutual insurance company. And there is no age limit or health questionnaire.”
“Zero public money”
“We are a real mutual insurance company”, confides the president of the Mutualité familiale, Sylvie Ben Jaber, to justify the rates. “And we put zero public money”, underlines the mayor. This solidarity offer is for the moment restricted to Montpellier, Clapiers, Le Crès, Saint-Géniès and Murviel. “But if a municipality, even outside the metropolis, wants to join the mutual insurance company, the door is open”, concludes the mayor-health advisor for a day.
The price list
For the first 760 Montpellier members, the contract will be effective on January 1st. Four levels of reimbursement are offered depending on the age group.
