If we rely on the official synopsis offered by Netflix:
Carry-On follows young Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent Ethan as he struggles to resist a mysterious traveler who is blackmailing him into that he lets a dangerous package slide on a Christmas Eve flight.
After watching, we can indeed confirm that the tension and suspense remain very present for 2 hours. We also appreciate this contrast between this sweet Christmas atmosphere present in the film and the explosive climate.

This film relies largely on the duo consisting of Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Tetris) and Jason Bateman (Ozark). Alongside them, a bunch of actors who also do a good job: Sofia Carson (Nos cœurs meurtris), Danielle Deadwyler (Parralel), or even Theo Rossi (The Penguin), and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad).
Jaume Collet-Serra has already discussed this alchemy between the two men:
We all wanted the movie to feel incredibly realistic, like the events of this movie could happen to any of us on any given day in any airport, and Jason and Taron delivered brilliant performances that helped ground our movie and make it feel real. I think they also really enjoyed the cat-and-mouse game between their two characters and really had a great time setting up their exchanges from those moments.
What the critics are saying?
While not a masterpiece, Carry-On still has a score of 68 out of 100 on Metacritic, which is still pretty solid. Our colleagues from Journal du Geek have for example underlined:
Carry-On doesn't revolutionize anything, but since that's not what we expected of it, we can say that it succeeds in its mission. Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman do a good job, as does director Jaume Collet-Serra, and we have a rather pleasant time watching a thriller that takes advantage of the holidays to make its mark. A work in the average of Netflix productions intended to inflate a catalog, nevertheless, in the high average.
