IN BRIEF

  • This Sunday, December 22, BFMTV broadcast a report on Celine Dion's performance at the Paris Olympics
  • Thomas Jolly, the director, then returned to a the singer's demands
  • And her instructions were very clear

This Sunday, December 22 2024, BFMTV broadcast a documentary on the backstage of Celine Dion's performance at the Paris Olympic Games. Called Celine Dion: the iron lady, the report returned to the singer's arrival in Paris, for this exceptional event, staged by Thomas Jolly on July 26.

While the artist, who suffers from stiff-man syndrome, had not returned to the stage, she dazzled the French and the whole world by covering L’Hymne à là l’amour by Edith Piaf. “She is there, she sings true. If we want to have the emotion, the power of this text The Hymn to Love and this melody, we have to be true. And she is the one who for me is perhaps the truest of all the artists I know”, confides Thomas Jolly.

Celine Dion had one single requirement for her performance at the Paris Olympics

For this performance, Celine Dion has one single requirement : “She said to me: 'Let's make things clear: whether it's windy, snowy, rainy, I'll sing up there'”. The ceremony's director then attends the singer's rehearsals: “I'm the first to attend this. I hear her singing in front of me, even though she hasn't sung for several years. I think to myself, this is incredible what's happening. She herself is very moved. The entire staff has red eyes.”

But this performance is not without danger. Indeed, the singer is attached to a harness: “It was necessary to find a trick to hide the safety harness. There was no question of climbing so high and not being safe”, specifies Thomas Jolly.

A palpable emotion

With her dress designed for the occasion by Maria Grazia of the house of Dior, Céline Dion is simply majestic: “What is very pretty is that the pearls look & drops of water, there were a few that evening“, says the director.

The latter also reveals the singer's reaction when she was offered this challenge: “We know that she loves the idea, that she is very happy with the concept and that she likes everything. But there is always the state of health”, remembers Thomas Jolly.
