Véronique Calueba élue départementale et Isabelle Deixonne adjointe PMI
Located in the premises of the PMI of Frontignan, the Maison des 1000 jours of Frontignan serves the 14 municipalities that are around the Bassin de Thau. It is a place of support for parents and children that aims to be a resource for professionals. It is open every day except Thursday afternoon.
“It is a chance to welcome such a structure”says Véronique Calueba, departmental councilor and vice-president delegated to child and family solidarity of Hérault. The elected official welcomes the opening (1) of a House of 1000 days in Frontignan. The structure is housed in the premises of the Maternal and Child Protection (PMI), at 172 avenue du maréchal Juin. It is the second structure of the same type in the department of Hérault. The first is in the Cévennes in Montpellier.
Free access
What is the purpose of a Maison des 1000 jours? “It is a freely accessible place dedicated to parents, children and professionals” explains Isabelle Deixonne, deputy manager of the PMI in Frontignan. This new service is funded by the Regional Health Agency (ARS), as part of the national child protection strategy. The Maison des 1000 jours complements the care already offered by the PMI. The latter had been working for a long time on the development of a reception structure “which could extend a simple consultation work” indicates Véronique Calueba.
Open every day
“When we say 1000 days, it's from the fourth month of pregnancy until the child is three years old”, explains the departmental councilor. The Maison des 1000 jours in Frontignan serves the 14 municipalities around the Bassin de Thau. It is a place that aims to be a resource for early childhood professionals from daycare centers and also social and family intervention technicians. It is open every day except Thursday afternoon. There is no need to make an appointment.

The Maison des 1000 jours project was set up with Dr. Monique Toulemonde, a former PMI manager who retired. She was replaced by Dr. Nathalie Gutowski. Isabelle Deixonne is her assistant. The two supervisors of the PMI and the Maison des 1000 jours are ably assisted by a childcare worker, Véronique Clarck.
Focus on prevention
Until then, the Frontignan PMI team was made up of two childcare workers, a coordinator, a doctor, a midwife and a nurse. With the entry into service of the Maison des 1000 jours, the range of care services was then expanded. “We have additional services, including half-day shifts per week for psychology, speech therapy and psychomotor therapy consultations. These consultations with practitioners really allow us to focus on prevention”, emphasizes Isabelle Deixonne. “We were able to buy additional equipment, which allowed us to work on psychomotor skills. Now, thanks to the Maison des 1000 jours, we will be able to identify children facing this type of problem very early on”, says the deputy head of the PMI.
Additional support
The Maison des 1000 jours supports families. “We feel that there is a need to help parents sometimes even with very simple things. When they come with a problem, we can guide and advise them. They can find time here to talk with specialized practitioners” emphasizes the deputy head of the PMI. With the House of 1000 Days “we focus on early prevention. This really allows us to be accessible to everyone with additional specialists”. The system is funded by the ARS. We welcome everyone and children in care too.
“This offer from the Maison des 1000 jours” is in addition to the PMI. It is an additional service with better support.
What the Cyrulnik report says
The report by Boris Cyrulnik neuropsychiatrist submitted on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, proposes "monitoring and support that or: global, i.e. taking into account all the medical, social and psychological problems encountered by parents during the first 1000 days of their child's life. This is personalized monitoring, i.e. allowing us to respond to the specific situations encountered by each parent; and supportive, so that isolated, vulnerable or helpless parents can be taken care of satisfactorily and supported in their parenting”.
1) The Maison des 1000 jours in Frontignan has been open since November 22, 2023. After Montpellier and Frontignan, a third structure of the same type will open in January 2025 in Béziers.
