She is due to undergo surgery soon, reports Spanish media outlet Caras, picked up by Here. Queen Letizia of Spain, wife of Felipe VI, has been suffering from chronic pain that has been affecting her daily life for months. It is Morton's neuroma, according to the Spanish media outlet.

During a recent state trip to the Netherlands, the former journalist received guests sitting on a chair while the other people present were standing. In Palma de Mallorca, Letizia of Spain had also left an official meeting earlier than expected.

“Quite intense pain”

Morton's neuroma is a pathology that causes “quite intense pain under the base and between the toes. It is the compression of an interdigital nerve between two metatarsal heads”, underlines the website of the American Hospital of Paris.

It is more precisely a “bulge”, a “thickening “nervous”. The pain felt comes from this swelling which compresses the nerves.

Letizia Ortiz would also suffer from chronic metatarsalgia, another condition which affects the feet and could be linked to the daily wearing of high heels.
