Asked about freedom of expression and the right to blasphemy in France by Sud Radio, Angélique Angarni-Filopon, the new Miss France 2025, did not wish to answer. A sequence that caused a brief unease and numerous criticisms on social networks. A Charlie Hebdo cartoonist also answered her.
Angélique Angarni-Filopon, the new Miss France 2025, was the guest of Sud Radio this Thursday, January 9. While the country paid tribute to the victims of the tragic attacks ten years ago, she was asked to say a few words about the attack on Charlie Hebdo. The sequence caused a brief awkwardness during the show.
“Are you Charlie ?”, the journalist asked her. “I'm not going to say”, she replied, visibly uncomfortable. The radio host then asked her if she thought that in France we had the right to blaspheme. After a few seconds of silence, Angélique Angarni-Filopon said: “I prefer not to comment”, she declared before specifying that a miss had to “be apolitical”.

“I owe myself neutrality”
The sequence, widely relayed on social networks, notably X (formerly Twitter), provoked strong reactions. So much so that the new Miss France decided to speak out in a story published on her Instagram account: “Maybe it was clumsy but in my role as Miss France, I have to be neutral on certain subjects to avoid any misunderstandings and cause any controversy” , she wrote.
Miss France responded in her Instagram story. INSTAGRAM SCREENSHOT
“It would be an aberration to think that I could support such barbaric acts that leave families in mourning. Charlie Hebdo touches on deep issues and, of course, freedom of expression is essential in France”.
And to conclude that she condemned “firmly these terrorist acts”.
“Miss France is not Charlie!”
Her appearance on the Sud Radio set did not fail to reach the ears of Charlie Hebdo. Cartoonist since 2015 for the satirical newspaper, Juin, responded to Miss France with a caricature.

With the headline “Miss France is not Charlie!”, the drawing shows two minarets with three bearded characters wearing turbans in the middle, probably mullahs, holding a sign that reads “I am Miss France“.
