Football: in Regional 1, finally a success for the Nîmes reserve

La formation croco a su bien lancer son année en championnat. MIDI LIBRE – JERÔME MORIN

Without a win for six games in Regional 1, the crocodile reserve team returned to winning ways (3-2) on Saturday, January 11 at home against Narbonne, on the 11th day of the championship.

For six games, the Nîmes team no longer really knew what the word victory meant, in R1, remaining on five draws and one defeat. Saturday, at home against Narbonne, Mickaël Gas's men recalled the good memories of the 3 points and the cries of joy after the success (3-2), in the locker room.''That one was important, it brings the group together a bit. It's a tough victory that we went to get at the end'', the Nîmes coach was satisfied, relieved.

El Hamri, ship captain

If Kalczynski delivered NO ten minutes from the end, finding himself on the receiving end of a cross on the line from Larcier's left (3-2, 80th), Selmane El Hamri had taken care of pretty much everything beforehand. Demonstrating that the crocodile reserve is no longer really the same with or without the players from the National group who came to reinforce it.

Against the Audois, El Hamri, as a good captain, showed the way, taking advantage of a millimetre-perfect opening… from the pro, Khalid, to get ahead of the Narbonne goalkeeper Giraud and conclude (1-0, 25th). A short-lived happiness for NO, brought back into the game ten minutes later when the FUN striker, Niang, too free in his movements in the area, adjusted the goalkeeper Ichalalen (1-1, 35th).

At 1-1, Ichalalen keeps Nîmes in the match

At half-time, everything remained to be done (again) for the Gardois lacking points in the standings. On the attack, however, during the first quarter of an hour of the second half, it was Narbonne who went for it. Twice, Ichalalen saved Nîmes by interposing himself on attempts by Rhabi (50th), then Niang (57th).

Dominated but realistic, the Nîmes were. And relied on the talent of El Hamri who, with a clear left-footed shot from 20 meters that lodged under Giraud's crossbar (2-1, 71st), gave the advantage to the Gardois who thought they had the upper hand.

Not so fast… Niang equalized and responded to El Hamri's double (2-2, 78th). All that before Kalczynski emerged from the bench. In the standings, NO reappears in the top 5… 9 points behind the leader, Grau-du-Roi.
