"We are staying the course, we are not giving up" affirms the mayor of Grau-du-Roi during the municipal wishes

“On est sur le pont, on est à la barre…”As many mayors are currently mentioning during their New Year's wishes, Robert Crauste wanted to recall, during the New Year's wishes evening which took place on Friday evening at Espace Cassel, “the solidity of the local level while the ship is rocking at the national level. The town hall is on the front line, we provide local solutions to our fellow citizens. The momentum was strong in 2024 and that of 2025 will be even stronger despite a context of uncertainty“.

An urban shuttle to connect all the districts

2025 will notably see the implementation of the urban shuttle”which will connect all the districts. There is also a more territorial approach with the plan mobility led by the Terre de Camargue community of communes.”
Still in the context of soft transport, the elected official announced the creation of 2.7 km of cycle path, notably on Boulevard Jean Bastide in Boucanet and the start of a study for a separate cycle path between the Seaquarium and the Town Hall.

The town is currently undergoing major works, notably around the new Hemingway media library and the Agora function room, brand new facilities inaugurated and put into service in November 2024.

Green path from the station to the canal

“We are continuing the major urban renovation plan initiated with the services of urban planner Joan Busquets, explains Robert Crauste,after the renovation of the seafront, the redevelopment of Place Revest and Avenue Georges-Pompidou, work is currently focusing on the creation of a green path between the canal and the future eco-district”.
The town hall hopes, with this green path, to allow gentle travel from the station area which will undergo major changes. Indeed, the train will now stop a little upstream to free up space around the station. “We are in negotiations with the SNCF to recover land in order to develop parking spaces“, continues Robert Crauste.

Another ongoing dispute over the project of the eco-district

Concerning the eco-district project, the mayor specifies that there “still a dispute to settle. But everything is ready for the first phase.”
He recalls that in 2024, 15 individual houses with access to property ownership were able to be delivered to house young couples or families as part of the Orchidées au Boucanet program. Program that continues this year.

Concerning schools, it is also in 2025 that the grouping of the two nursery schools within the same school group should be completed. “This will allow us to create a reception center for early childhood with 65 nursery cots and an early childhood relay at the former Eric-Tabarly school”.

A medical center

For 2025, the municipality will also continue the energy transition plan. “We have already reduced the EDF bill by 63% and we are planning photovoltaic canopies”,continues the elected official. Who also announces the establishment of the CNRS in the former administrative services building of the hospital with a research unit (named Gladys) on the future of the oceans, named Gladys, in partnership with the Region and the University of Montpellier. “Work has begun and in this same building we are setting up a third place called Le sana with the SPL Le Grau du Roi Développement”.
The mayor also points out that the CHU is now equipped with a scanner and announces that a medical on-call center will be available very soon to ensure access to care, “and I hope, contribute to the arrival of new doctors“.

The decision to run again or not in 2026 will be given after the budget

It should also be noted that this year 2025 will see the mapping studies undertaken with Symadrem, for projections on the evolution of the coastline at the end of the year. 2040 and 2100.

A lot of projects (not exhaustive), therefore, for this year of the end of the mandate: “We will be active until the end, we will not give up”, specifies the mayor. Will he run again in 2026 ? “I will announce my decision at the end of the first quarter, after the budget vote. We have the capacity to develop projects without resorting to borrowing. This year, the municipal share of the property tax will even be reduced. We are planning €12 million of investment.” concludes the mayor.
