After the match, Joris Chotard met furious supporters. Midi Libre – JEAN MICHEL MART
With red eyes, the Montpellier midfielder was one of the few to stop in front of the press, Sunday January 12 after the defeat against Angers (1-3). He confided his distress but also his determination not to give up even if the question of his future is still on the table.
How do we feel after this match that went very badly for you ?
Complicated. Even if we want to stay positive, today, there is none. As we said, we missed our first half. We have no action, and on the only action they have, there is a goal, because we are not good in our area, nor in theirs. We are forced to take risks in the second half, because today, we have no choice.
The second goal is a bit of bad luck of the moment. And after the third, it's all or nothing. But hey, today we concede three against Angers at home, it's complicated.
We have a hard time understanding this first half, we talked a lot about the importance of this match, about death, about the final, we have the impression that you were afraid for 45 minutes ?
Yes, that's a bit what we said to ourselves. We played a bit tense, our feet more tense than usual. I think that if we had played our football as we did better at the start of the second half, it would have gone differently. But that's it, today, that's how it is. If we're last, it's not for nothing, we have to say things. It's in this kind of match that we see that we are last.
What did the coach tell you at half-time and there, at the end of the match ?
At half-time, to simply play what we didn't do in the first half. There was a bit of a shouting match because after a while, you can't afford to do anything. Today, we have no right to make a mistake, we know that nothing will be given to us and we still allow ourselves to have a first half like that against a rival team that is distancing us today.

Are there any reasons to still believe in it?
We have to, in any case, we have to. It's complicated. We find ourselves very far from the play-off, even if Le Havre lost, we find ourselves far away. In any case, we have to believe in it, otherwise, we forfeit the second part of the season. We don't come here, we don't come to be booed by the supporters and we give up. But we still have to keep a minimum of pride, ego, respect also for this club and for the history of this club.
Joris, you were trained here in Montpellier, you are almost a child of the country. Tonight, the break with the supporters is complete. How do you feel deep down inside ?
It pisses me off. It pisses me off because if I'm here today, it's thanks to Montpellier. If I live today, if I have a salary, a house, everything I have, it's thanks to Montpellier. We expected the reaction of the supporters when we lost 3-1 at home against Angers.
I have a pride, I am indebted to this club. It pisses me off that people think that it pleases me and that they don't care about the club's situation today.
I only speak for myself but you shouldn't think that it pleases me to take three today, to be last, to show a face like that at home. You shouldn't forget that there are our families, our loved ones in the stadium. For all that, you shouldn't think that it pleases us.
Today, we talk a lot about money, about what we are lucky to have because we are privileged. But we are still normal men. I have a pride, I am indebted to this club. It pisses me off that people think that I'm happy and that they don't care about the club's situation today.
Can this change your view of your future today?? You've been announced as leaving for a while. Can this make you reconsider your position today??
It hasn't changed anything today. It's not just me in this story. The club is involved too. I live day by day. I try to fight as hard as I can on the pitch, even if people say we're not fighting. Every match I play for Montpellier, I play as if it were my last. As if we were dying right after. I know deep down that I'm giving it my all. We'll see day by day.
