Nearly 300 people attended the New Year's ceremony of the mayor of Saint-Affrique, Friday, January 10.

It was in front of an audience of nearly 300 guests that Sébastien David, mayor and president of the community of communes, presented his New Year's wishes on Friday evening at the Richard-Sainct multipurpose space. In this pre-election year, he took stock of municipal action and presented upcoming projects:“For five years, since the beginning of our mandate, our only ambition, that of the municipal team and the intercommunal team that I have the pleasure of leading, is to move the territory forward, to give it a new dynamic and to offer a comfortable life to each of you.”And to list the redevelopment around the church, the start of work on the multimodal interchange hub, the soft transport routes, the opening of the Bourguet footbridge, the rehabilitation of the Pont Neuf, the opening of the Richard-Sainct multi-purpose space, the renovation of the Malet bowling alley, the Roquefort Demain project and the centenary in 2025 of the Roquefort AOP. Not forgetting the doubling of the Blanchard gymnasium car park, the reopening of the Netto car park, the new cloister car park, the collective self-consumption photovoltaic system in Crassous, the de-impermeabilization of school car parks and playgrounds and the planting of a thousand honey-producing trees.

Renovated function room and gymnasium

In the coming months, the 12-star gymnasium and the function room will be renovated. Construction of the Maison des solidarités will begin on the Voltaire block. In Cazes, the land for the fire station has been acquired. The building permit for the new gendarmerie (€6 million) is under review. “In this same district, a new subdivision will see the light of day to allow first-time buyers access to property,” declared the mayor.

Referring to the tenth anniversary of the 2014 floods, Sébastien David announced that work on the flood expansion zone in the Cazes waste disposal site area would be completed by mid-2025, with major modernisation work on the site in parallel (€4 million).

“Tax rates will not increase”

Then, he insisted on the fact that “for the fifth consecutive year, local tax rates are not increasing. A six-year term without an increase in rates is more than thirty years since that happened. As for the price of water, we are doing everything we can to ensure that it does not increase not.”

For the hospital “the ARS will not do anything”

“My commitment to the hospital file is total, declared Sébastien David. It is done with all the stakeholders, user associations, collectives, caregivers. The regional health agency will not do just anything. I was able to cancel a supervisory board meeting to make us wait. I will know how to force the door of the office of the general director of the ARS in Montpellier. Nothing will be done just anything, let's be clear! Other actions are possible and […] we will carry them out collectively. If we speak with a common voice on the hospital, we will win."

Concerning the median hospital, the team of architects will be appointed at the end of January for a construction that should be completed by 2029. The opening of the new multidisciplinary health center on the Borel Gare space will allow “consultations with general practitioners, specialists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other health professionals in a modern and well-equipped environment.” Deep punctures should be performed in the hospital's radiology department in the first half of the year, and cementoplasties at the end of the year.

On a more personal note, evoking “the municipal adventure and the intercommunal adventure”, Sébastien David concluded: “Believe in me to make Saint-Affrique and the Saint-Affricain shine, and to make the living environment that surrounds us shine.”
