The quest for survival for Nîmes, the rise for ASPTT Montpellier, suspense at all levels for the women

The quest for survival for Nîmes, the rise for ASPTT Montpellier, suspense at all levels for the women

L’ASPTT Montpellier va-t-elle monter en Division 3 ? ASPTT Montpellier

From Division 3 to Regional 2, including the youth, the second half of the season promises to be enticing in the regional and national championships for the teams of our departments.

D3: Nîmes with its back to the wall

Bottom of the table with a record of just one win and eight losses in nine games, Nîmes Foot Féminin will have a lot to do to secure a place in the third division. Even though the Gardoises have been able to show some good things in the game, this has almost never translated into points in the standings. With their backs to the wall, striker Béatrice Kaboré and her partners will have to quickly pick up points to keep their hopes up. Starting with this Sunday at the Stade Jean-Bouin in Nîmes (2:30 p.m.) against Albi Marssac (5th).

In the same Division 3 group, the MHSC reserve team has had a solid start to the season. Seventh with four wins and two draws, Geoffrey Doumeng's players can hope to gain a few places in an extremely tight mid-table. At the same time as the Nîmes match, the Montpellier women will challenge AS Monaco (8th).

R1: an enticing end to the season

In Occitanie, the single group of the regional elite offers its share of suspense and spectacle. Last weekend's matches closed the first leg and two teams share the top of the standings: the Toulouse FC reserve and ASPTT Montpellier. Since the Toulousaines cannot access the upper echelon, the Héraultaises are the best placed to win the only ticket for Division 3, for the moment.

After a flawless start, Jacou-Clapiers (3rd) ended the year 2024 with four games without a win including two defeats but started 2025 with a victory against Druelle (3-2). Slightly behind, the JCFA has not said its last word in the fight for promotion: “Nothing is impossible, believes the attacker Khadija El Kassili who imagines that her team can make up the five points that separate it from the neighbors of ASPTT Montpellier. After a good start to the season, we had a lot of injuries at the end of the year. Now, everyone is back in shape.”

The two teams from the Montpellier metropolitan area will cross swords for the derby in Montpellier on April 6.

R2: Thongue Libron, the nice surprise

Group A of Regional 2 is also living up to its promises. And the fight for promotion to Regional 1 is in full swing. With a four-point lead over AS Béziers, FC Thongue Libron is still undefeated this season: “Our position in the standings is a nice surprise,” says the Hérault club's sports director Thierry Gonot. “Despite some important departures, we have made quality recruitment with players who were playing in D3. We have not yet addressed the subject of promotion. If we succeed, we will have to strengthen the team and the budget.”

In this championship, FC Sussargues completes the podium while Montpellier Arceaux is in fifth position. Stade Beaucairois is at the bottom of the rankings.

U18: Béziers in the lead

In U18 Regional 1, AS Béziers leads the way with a three-point lead over the Montpellier reserve team. The Biterroises have not lost a single match in ten games. ASPTT Montpellier is sixth while the youngsters of Nîmes Foot Féminin, ninth with only one victory, are playing to stay up. The start of the return phase begins on Saturday with, in particular, a duel between ASPTT Montpellier and Nîmes Foot Féminin at 6 p.m.

And also…

U19: MHSC shines

The MHSC U19s made a strong impression in the first half of the season. Justine Rouquet and her partners largely dominated their U19 National championship mixing pool with 10 wins in as many matches. The Montpellier women beat Olympique de Marseille twice, as well as AS Saint-Etienne, Toulouse FC, OGC Nice and Bourg-Péronnas. Laurent Nicollin's young players are therefore involved in the Elite phase with Dijon, Marseille, Lyon, Paris FC and Paris Saint-Germain. Forward Célia Chabod and her Montpellier Hérault teammates begin their quest for the national crown on the OM pitch on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. before traveling to Dijon on February 2. We will have to wait until February 9 to see the Héraultaises welcome Olympique Lyonnais, three-time defending French champion of the category, to the MHSC training center at 2:30 p.m. After a trip to the capital to face Paris FC on March 2, Montpellier will challenge Paris Saint-Germain at home on March 16 (3 p.m.).

National Futsal Cup

The regional final of the National Futsal Cup will see Montpellier Méditerranée Futsal and Toulouse Futsal face off on Saturday, January 25, as a curtain-raiser for the men's Division 1 match between MMF and Nantes (9 p.m.).

Occitanie Cup

The round of 16 of the regional event will take place the last weekend of January. Among the main matches, Beaucaire (R2) hosts ASPTT Montpellier (R1) and Montpellier Arceaux (R2) challenges Sussargues (R2). Jacou-Clapiers (R1) plays in Juvignac against FC 3MTKD (District). These matches will take place on Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m.
