The case was initially investigated by the Miami-Dade County District Attorney's Office, which includes the Florida metropolis. But it ultimately decided not to charge Conor McGregor due to insufficient evidence.

Following this decision, “a civil procedure is the only legal avenue in this case”, explained the alleged victim's attorney, James Dunn. In the writ filed Tuesday, the woman accuses the 36-year-old athlete of sexually assaulting her in a bathroom at the Miami Heat professional basketball team's Kaseya Center.

“After a thorough investigation, at the time, the prosecutor concluded that there was insufficient evidence” to prosecute Conor McGregor, recalled the Irish star's attorney, Barbara Llanes. “Nearly two years later, and after three attorneys, the plaintiff has a new false version”, the attorney argued. “We are confident that this action will also be dismissed.”

Sentenced in late 2024

The alleged victim, who initially filed a complaint two days after the alleged events, also sued the operator of the Kaseya Center, accusing him of negligence.

Conor McGregor is one of the leading figures in the professional MMA league, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In 2020, he was the highest-earning professional athlete, at $180 million, according to the magazine Forbes. In November 2024, he was ordered by the High Court in Dublin to pay €248,603 in damages to a 35-year-old woman who had sued him for “brutally raping and beating” her.
