The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally official! Well, almost. After an unbearable wait for fans, the Japanese company has finally revealed the outlines of its new console. For now, the video broadcast on the brand's communication networks confirms most of the rumors.
So, the Switch 2 will be bigger than the Switch 1. It will integrate magnetic joycons which, we hope, will not experience the same technical setbacks as their predecessors (connection problems affected the first versions of the console). Nintendo is abandoning the all-color design: the Switch 2 is wearing a black dress with small touches of color (blue or pink) on the joysticks and triggers of each joycon.
Nintendo confirms the launch of a brand new Mario Kart 9 at the same time as the console. The rest of the lineup remains a mystery. On the other hand, the Japanese have made official the backward compatibility with Switch 1 games. The cartridges and downloaded games will therefore be compatible with the Switch 2. Phew!
What else?? Nothing. Nintendo just gave us an appetizer and will see us on April 2, 2025 for a more complete presentation of the console. We should know more about the performances, the catalog of available games, the release date or even the price.

What price for the Nintendo Switch 2 ?
The price, precisely, will play an essential role in the success of the Nintendo console. Many rumors have mentioned a price of 399 euros. If the Japanese adopt this pricing positioning, it could well repeat the phenomenal success of the first generation.
The console market is today largely dominated by the Playstation 5, sold well above 500 euros. Moreover, apart from the Xbox Series S, no next-gen console has been marketed below this threshold. Even PC consoles (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go etc.) have never reached such a low price positioning.
If rumors are to be believed, the Switch 2 should not integrate state-of-the-art components. Nintendo would therefore be able to reduce production costs and, by extension, the final price.
A positioning around 400 euros would therefore be perfect for the Japanese. It would not cross the psychological threshold of 500 euros, which would allow it to reach a much wider audience than fans from the launch. We can also bet on commercial operations to take back old consoles to further reduce the purchase price.
At the moment, a Switch is being taken back for around 150 euros. The Switch 2 will therefore return to 250 euros, without a special offer. An unbeatable price for a latest generation console. Especially since Nintendo licenses are not found anywhere else.
