When you drive without a license, without insurance and drunk, you generally try to be discreet. Especially when you have already been convicted of similar acts. The defendant who appeared this Thursday, January 16, 2025 before the Mende court did not have this presence of mind. On August 1, 2024, the 43-year-old man had overtaken a police vehicle without sufficient visibility while driving on a two-way road in Peyre-en-Aubrac. Subjected to the breathalyzer test, the driver displayed 0.62 mg of alcohol per liter of exhaled air. He spontaneously admitted that he no longer had a driving license, which was suspended for medical reasons.

An interlock breathalyzer

Sentenced to six months of reinforced probation, the man will be prohibited from frequenting drinking establishments. He will also have to equip himself with an interlock breathalyzer for a period of six months, once he has retaken his license. However, he will be able to keep his vehicle, which is very dilapidated. “It would cost more to confiscate it“, the judge specified, adding: “it is a confidence measure, but there will not be two.”

He was however acquitted for the lack of insurance, there being no evidence that the offence was intentional. He had in fact just been struck off for failure to pay. In total, he will have to pay €270 in fines.
