While you may be enjoying your brand new PS5 Pro, we learned today that Sony Interactive Entertainment has abruptly decided to end development on several games in the works at some very well-known studios. According to Jason Schreier, who reported the news for Bloomberg, Sony has decided to end development on two so-called “service” games currently in development at Bluepoint Games and Bend Studios.
PlayStation slows down on service-based games
For the record, the Bluepoint Games studio is renowned for its impressive remakes, including Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) but also more recently Demon's Souls (PS5). For its part, Bend Studios was at the origin of the Syphon Filter saga (of which we discuss the legendary first opus here), but the studio also worked on Uncharted Golden Abyss (PS Vita), without forgetting Days Gone in 2019, its final creation.

Following a recent “examination“, PlayStation would have changed its directive, even though the firm proudly announced in 2022 around ten service games under development on PS5.
According to Jason Schreier, one of the recently canceled games was a God of War project, in gestation at Bluepoint Games. At Bend Studios, it is a mysterious multiplayer game that has reportedly been canceled. However, the Japanese giant is not completely closing the door to this type of game, since Fairgames, a multiplayer FPS developed by Haven, Jade Raymond's new company, should arrive soon, after having been presented in May 2023.

Last December, Herman Hulst announced his desire to rebalance the software division at PlayStation, with multiplayer-oriented games (despite the failure of Concord, we must not forget the colossal success of Helldivers 2), but also purely single-player titles, like a classic God of War, an Uncharted or even an Astro Bot, named Game of the Year last year.
And after a particularly rich year in 2024 in terms of (good) video games, 2025 should also see the arrival of some excellent video game productions, on PlayStation consoles as elsewhere… but it's hard to know if GTA VI and Death Stranding 2 will actually be there.
