This final brought together 75 students, aged 16 to 24, from the eight agricultural education establishments in the area. “I didn't think I'd make it”
Mathieu Laur, aged 16, will be the only representative in Paris of the departments of Tarn, where he lives, and Aveyron, where he takes his classes. Four young people from Lot have also been selected, as well as a man from Haute-Garonne. The candidates have completed a series of theoretical and practical tests inspired by the daily actions of a farmer. Mathieu Laur, aged 16, lives in Lacaune, in the Tarn. His parents, farmers, have a flock of 350 Lacaune sheep. They produce milk for Roquefort. They also have around fifty Limousin beef cattle. “Trimming hooves and sorting four sheep in a pen with a loop reader are the events I did best,” analyzes Mathieu Laur. I'm happy to be selected because I didn't think I'd make it. I trained a lot. In Paris, it will be a good experience. I think I'll go with my brother. It will be the first time I've been to the agricultural show and this is the opportunity.” For Christine Buisson, professor of animal husbandry at La Cazotte, “the seven youngsters did well. Overall, they finished in the top third of the competition. The gaps are minimal.”
