Dacia could only count on its Spring to fill the electric segment of its offer (the new version is already available), but that is now a thing of the past. The subsidiary of the Renault group has just announced a zero-emission version of its flagship model: the Sandero. Europe's best-selling vehicle in 2024 in the thermal version (270,000 models sold), the new electric version of the city car is expected for the end of 2027
Electrification without compromising on price
The Sandero's electric shift will not be to the detriment of its initial philosophy. Economies of scale require it, it will be based on the Renault group's AmpR Small platform, already proven on the Renault 4 and R5 E-Tech. Dacia is therefore maintaining its objective of offering accessible vehicles; it has no choice in reality, its reputation is at stake.
It will be offered with two battery options: the most robust, 52 kWh, intended for drivers traveling longer distances and a more modest, 40 kWh, rather reserved for urban use.
In terms of power, the manufacturer plans a basic engine of 95 horsepower, supplemented by a more robust version of 150 horsepower. The future Sandero will therefore not play the role of a small EV outsider like the Spring, but will position itself as a a real electric car in the B segment,

The territorial anchoring of the future electric Sandero is still under consideration. The brand's historic Romanian factory in Mioveni could host the production lines, since this is where most Dacia models are manufactured, including the famous Logan. It will surely require some adjustments, since no EVs are assembled there at the moment.
However, two other sites are also in Dacia's sights: the one in Maubeuge and Douai, already experienced in the manufacture of Renault electric models. Indeed, the Maubeuge plant was one of the first in France to convert entirely to the production of electric vehicles and it was here that the Renault Zoé was produced, one of the first successful electric vehicles in Europe. Douai followed a similar trajectory, specializing in the production of electric batteries for the group's vehicles. Both therefore already have the skills and equipment necessary to assemble the electric Sandero efficiently.
The three plants are therefore being studied to accommodate future manufacturing, and according to initial information, manufacturing will remain in Europe. For the moment, Dacia has not provided an official price list, but we can already bet that the price of the Sandero will have the effect of a hammer blow on the EV market.
