Nicolas Bedos has made his decision. While he had decided to appeal after his October 2024 conviction for sexual assault, the actor and director has retracted his decision. It was on January 22, 2025 that he announced, via press release, his intention not to reverse the court decision. “Nicolas Bedos has decided to abandon the appeal of the decision rendered against him on October 22. This choice, difficult but carefully considered, is part of a desire for appeasement.” can be read in the press release that he shared via his Instagram account on January 25, 2024.
By making this decision, the 45-year-old does not want to fuel the case. On the contrary, Nicolas Bedos wants to ease tensions and move forward, for himself, his loved ones and the victims. “Having been involved in an introspective process for two years, he hopes that this withdrawal will allow each one to turn the page and move forward.” concludes the press release. His partner Pauline Desmonts still has the judgment stuck in her throat…

As a reminder, Nicolas Bedos had been sentenced to one year in prison, including six months under an electronic tag for sexual assault on October 22, 2024. He had also been sentenced to a requirement for addiction and psychological care. But that's not all: he had been banned from contacting the victims and the criminal court had asked his registration in the judicial register of perpetrators of sexual or violent offences (Fijais).
At the time of the deliberations, Nicolas Bedos' lawyer, Maître Julia Minkowski, had announced their intention to appeal. ” I am both stunned and shocked by the deliberation I have just heard. This condemnation, this severity is totally unprecedented, unjust, totally unacceptable. We are in a society where for a kiss on the neck or a hand on a pair of jeans in the middle of a nightclub, we find ourselves condemned to wear an electronic bracelet for a period of six months. There is no question to ask: we will immediately appeal this unfair judgment on which I call on everyone to think.”, she declared.
Nicolas Bedos denies being an aggressor
The two victims denounced actions committed in 2023. “A complainant accused the director of having directed towards her, head down, before reaching out his right hand to her sex, over her jeans, on the night of June 1 to 2, 2023 (…) Another complainant, a waitress in a Parisian bar, had told in court that Mr. Bedos had grabbed her by the waist and kissed her on the neck on the night of May 11 to 12, 2023, while the latter was drunk,” recalls Le Monde. During the hearing, Nicolas Bedos had defended himself from being “a sexual aggressor”. “I don't remember anything, it's a blackout.“, declared the warned.
