Le premier adjoint au maire de Nîmes a déclaré sa candidature ce jeudi 23 janvier dans une vidéo postée sur les réseaux sociaux.

We knew it in Nîmes: the succession of mayor Jean-Paul Fournier, in place for almost 25 years, was going to whet appetites.

The war of the clans

Even in his camp, where two trends seemed to be emerging for several months: that of a candidacy of the president of Nîmes Métropole Franck Proust. And, facing him, that of the first deputy mayor, Julien Plantier.

It was ultimately the latter who drew first: Julien Plantier officially announced, this Thursday, January 23, his candidacy for 2026 via a video posted on social networks.

Two candidates now declared

A decision that has the effect of an earthquake on the right, as the mayor of Nîmes, Jean-Paul Fournier, had called for arbitration and cohesion in his camp.

Julien Plantier is now the second official contender for the mayor's chair, after the Renaissance candidate, Valérie Rouverand.

More information and reactions to come.
