Seven months after the decree declaring the western bypass of Nîmes to be of public utility (DUP), the president of Nîmes Métropole Franck Proust (LR), his chief of staff Bernard Baumelou and senator Laurent Burgoa (LR) met this Thursday morning with the new Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot (LR).

Disengagement

The working meeting lasted an hour. The president of Nîmes Métropole and the senator of Gard explained to the minister the issues of the file and the interest in accelerating the procedures for the realization of the first section of the western bypass of Nîmes. That is the motorway part: two kilometers to be carried out by Vinci autoroute (between the A9 and the road to Sommières, RD 40). Nîmes Métropole therefore proposes to the ministry either to sign the motorway plan contract as a whole, or to individualize this operation, in agreement with the concessionaire.

And knowing that the financing of the Conim under the Mobility amendment intended only for post-DUP studies and the first land acquisitions has undergone, in recent months, “a significant financial disengagement from the State that only Nîmes Métropole (associated with the Nîmes Alès metropolitan center) has compensated for to save this essential project for mobility” according to the terms of Nîmes Métropole.

According to Nîmes Métropole, “the minister has been very sensitive to the financial, technical and environmental arguments, and is committed to treating this file with the greatest attention and diligence in the ongoing discussions with the concessionaires highway.”
