Pas loin de réaliser son match le plus abouti de la saison, le BLMA s’impose (85-70) face à Lyon. Sa première victoire en championnat en 2025.

Beating Lyon in Lattes is a tradition. And like every year, the custom was perfectly respected (85-70) to the delight of the thousand spectators present on Saturday. To properly honor the rite, the BLMA was able to count on its trio of survivors from last year: Romane Bernies (16 pts), Garance Rabot (17 pts) and Elodie Naigre (21 pts).

Rabot's opening goal, Malonga's response, runs galore… From the first minute, both teams showed that the intensity would be there in a Palais des sports unaccustomed, this season, to the magic of Saturday night.

A complicated first half

In this little game, the Lyonnaises, led by the new nugget of French basketball Dominique Malonga (15 pts, 6 rebounds), got off to a flying start (11-19, 8th). Despite being battered, the BLMA was nevertheless ahead at the break (41-38). Something unthinkable four minutes earlier when the Gazelles were trailing by twelve points (23-35, 16th). But Lattes-Montpellier decided to score all their baskets, first with Rabot then by Naigre, before captain Bernies concluded the half with a 2-pointer on the buzzer.

“When they started to get away, we didn't panic, we stayed calm. We did the job, we made the stops and we came back”, said MVP Elodie Naigre.

“We imposed our game”

The comeback gave Valéry Demory's players incredible confidence. After the break, the partners of a dominant Fankam (14 points, 6 rebounds) continued their good momentum and stifled the Lyonnaises (62-53, 29th). The gap was made, Bernies only had to complete the BLMA's success with his favorite shot: a 3-pts from the logo.

For coach Demory, the manner is above all to remember. “In the first half, we were a little sloppy in defense and rebounding, which cost us dearly because we took shots in the face. Then we rectified all that well and imposed our game.”
