Between the vagaries of live broadcasting, surprises and fake news, the job of a journalist can be hectic. This Monday January 27, Apolline de Malherbe welcomed the president of the UDR group, Eric Ciotti, on the BFMTV set for the famous Face à Face. But at the end of the interview, the 44-year-old host wished to come back to a mistake of information made a few weeks earlier.
“I would also like to point out that I had made a mistake“, she says before putting it into context. On December 13, in the face-to-face with Xavier Bertrand, Apolline de Malherbe was “éled into error”. “Because previously, on December 3, during questions to the government, Michel Barnier had been arrested while he was paying tribute to a former deputy who had died,” she explains. It was René Couanau, a former deputy UMP and Mayor of Saint-Malo.

“A long time ago, I was a member of the same ministerial cabinet as him – he was my chief of staff to the Minister of Youth and Sports”, the former Prime Minister of France had declared, before being interrupted.
“We had heard the cry: “we don't care”, and it had been mentioned at the time, notably by the president of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, as having undoubtedly come from the words of Sophia Chikirou“, adds the BFMTV journalist. “We are talking about the memory of a man who has just passed away, Madam Deputy. It is scandalous!”, had gotten angry Yaël Braun-Pivet.
Apolline de Malherbe: “she apologized herself”
However, she was not the one who made this remark. “Moreover, the MP in question who pronounced these words apologized herself and said, I quote: 'it was not Sophia Chikirou, but me, who was addressing not Mr. Barnier but one of my colleagues'. I therefore wanted to reestablish this fact this morning in front of you”, concludes Apolline de Malherbe.
It is on the social network X, formerly Twitter, that MP Elisa Martin returned to this episode. “Who can imagine that we would be indifferent to the death of a human being. It was not Sophia Chikirou but me who was addressing not Mr. Barnier but a colleague who I thought was talking to me, precisely to stay focused on the intervention. Out of respect, no controversy”, she wrote.
