The “Dream Cities” website has put Nîmes under the microscope with its strengths and weaknesses. Midi Libre – MIKAËL ANISSET
The “Dream Cities” website has published its ranking of cities where life is good. Several municipalities in the Agglo of Nîmes Métropole are doing well, but some have seen their rating drop in relation to the future problem of the climate.
The website “Dream Towns” has published its ranking of cities and villages where life is good. Unsurprisingly, Annecy is at the top of the ranking of large and medium-sized towns with a score of 85 out of 100. But what about the Gard cities? ?
Nîmes loses one place compared to last year, overtaken in Occitanie by Béziers (31st), Montpellier (38th) and Perpignan (40th). The city of Antonin was positioned in 43rd place. Among the eighteen criteria examined, the Gard prefecture excels for its weather “with the guarantee of many days of sunshine”, sport because “the city offers a wide range of sports facilities, with 162 infrastructures. 20% of the population is licensed in sports federations”, specifies “Dream Cities”.

The other strong point concerns the “leisure” part. The site lists 478 associations “to boost local life. Leisure facilities are well covered. However, the number of facilities per inhabitant remains low, which leaves room for improvements to meet the expectations of residents”.
On the other hand, Nîmes is penalized by the sectors of education (taking into account the number of students, the results of the brevet and the baccalaureate, the offer of higher education), security (figures for delinquency, road safety and emergency interventions), more surprisingly by nature. “Dream cities” estimates that “efforts must be made to develop green spaces and improve the quality of natural areas in urban areas”.
But the score is further lowered for the climate predicted for 2050 in the municipality “with eleven scorching days, 58 tropical nights per year, periods of drought that are expected to reach 36 days”. And in the other municipalities of the Agglo ?
There are those that display the best scores thanks to the criteria of weather and quality of life like Langlade, Poulx (67 points out of 100), Clarensac (66) and others that have just the average like Saint-Dionisy (53), Caissargues and Bernis (57).
Here is the score of the other municipalities of the Agglo out of 100: Gajan (65), Aubord, Manduel (64), Caveirac, Dions, La Calmette, Parignargues (63), Milhaud (60), , Bouillargues (62), La Rouvière, Nages-et-Solorgues, Sainte-Anastasie, Uchaud (62), Cabrières, Saint-Gervasy (61), Marguerittes (60) and Garons (60).
