MHR: Hugo Reus could arrive very soon in Montpellier, loan returns expected next summer… an update on the club’s transfer window

Le MHR, comme d’autres clubs du Top 14, se serait positionné avec intérêt sur le demi d’ouverture de La Rochelle, Hugo Reus. Montpellier aurait pris la main sur le dossier.

Recruitment is not quite complete in Montpellier. According to our information, the management and staff of the MHR are working on the file of the fly-half Hugo Reus (20 years old, 1.84m, 85 kg). The U20 world champion in 2023 (generation Nouchi, Depoortère, Jegou, Costes, Tuilagi, Jauneau, Gazzotti…), considered a player with very high potential, is lacking playing time at La Rochelle, his training club.

Bordeaux-Bègles, Racing 92 or Stade Français have also expressed their interest. But Montpellier would hold the lead. The discussions would be well advanced. An arrival during the season would even be on the cards.

Reus has only played 8 matches in all competitions (2 starts) this season, blocked by Antoine Hastoy and Ihaia West.

Such a move would be an interesting message for Mohed Altrad's club. In difficulty when it comes to convincing Jiffs (players from the French team) to sign, Montpellier would pull off a nice move if the deal were to materialise. He would join the promising Maël Moustin (21 years old), Lenni Nouchi (21 years old), Auguste Cadot (23 years old), Baptiste Erdocio (24 years old), Lyam Akrab (19 years old) and Aurélien Barreau (19 years old).

Karl Martin and Alex Masibaka expected next summer

The MHR squad for the 2025-2026 season is gradually taking shape.

Loaned to Pro D2 this season, the Irish center Karl Martin (22 years old, Aurillac) and the third row of Australian origin Alex Masibaka (23 years old, Soyaux-Angoulême), both members of the Montpellier training center, will return to Hérault next summer.

Masibaka has also been selected for the Scottish squad to prepare for the Six Nations Tournament this winter.

These three players would complete a well-stocked recruitment. Welsh second row Adam Beard (58 caps), New Zealand hooker Ricky Riccitelli, Scottish scrum-half Ali Price (67 caps), English centre Lennox Anyanwu and French winger Donovan Taofifenua have given their consent.

Australian third row Langi Gleeson (1.88m, 110kg), 23 years old and 14 caps, will also arrive. His performances with the Wallabies and in Super Rugby have made the Montpellier staff flash.
