In 2024, Tesla unveiled the Cybercab, its robotaxi prototype, which is intended to compete with Waymo (Google) autonomous cars, already in use in the United States. And this week, during the presentation of its quarterly results, the company discussed the deployment schedule for its robotaxis. In its presentation, Tesla indicated that 2025 will be a pivotal year for the company. Indeed, it plans to finally deploy its “unsupervised FSD” autonomous driving system, as well as its robotaxi service, which should arrive in certain parts of the United States.

During the teleconference, Elon Musk specified that Tesla plans to launch a paid service with autonomous vehicles in Austin (Texas) in June. Initially, this service will use Tesla’s fleet. However, the manufacturer plans to offer a sort of Airbnb for autonomous cars starting next year. Tesla owners equipped with autonomous driving will be able to add their vehicles to this fleet.

The Cybercab is coming in 2026

Regarding the Cybercab, Tesla indicates that preparations are underway for its production lines at the Texas Gigafactory. The manufacturer will begin volume production of this robotaxi in 2026. As a reminder, the particularity of this vehicle is that it is specially designed for autonomous driving. And as a result, it has neither a steering wheel nor pedals.

In any case, autonomous driving is one of the products that Tesla will rely on to relaunch the growth of its automotive branch in 2025. It plans to offer autonomous driving to its customers in the United States. And at the same time, Tesla is preparing to launch the less autonomous version of its FSD system (which requires driver monitoring) in Europe and China.

Tesla is also counting on the launch of new models, including affordable ones, to boost sales.
