MHSC – Lens’s notes: Savanier and Delort were not supported enough and were not enough

Andy Delort et les Montpelliérains dans le dur face aux Lensois. MAXPPP – Alexandre Dimou

The continuation of the double attack was not enough for Montpellier, dominated in the game and logically beaten by Lens (0-2), Friday January 31.

Lecomte (4): The Montpellier captain could do nothing about the two goals left to his own devices. A great save nonetheless on a free kick from Frankowski that went under the wall (13th). Two missed restarts with his hand at the start of the second half that put his team in difficulty. A great horizontal on Nzola's shot (90th + 2).

Tchato (3): In defensive difficulty like the duel lost against Koyalipou on the first goal but also with a foul on Machado (12th). He had difficulty positioning himself against the same Lensois piston and the returns behind him from Diouf. Offensively not precise enough on his crosses. Replaced by Tanguy Coulibaly (81st).

Kouyaté (3): A complicated match for the Malian central defender caught from the start by Koyalipou's hook on Nzola's goal (1st) and behind him on Agbonifo's goal (61st). He was also cautioned for a sole on El Aynaoui (50th) before leaving groggy after a clash on the head with Fayad (64th). Replaced by Mouanga (64th)

Sagnan (3):More in difficulty than in Toulouse with the physiques of Koyalipou and Nzola. He got off well on the goal disallowed to the first named because the ball had passed between his legs. He lost the ball high on the second Lensois goal and did not have time to come back (61st). He was also cautioned (78th).

Sainte-Luce (3): Starting for the first time since February 2024, the left-back saw the ball pass between his legs on the opening score. Overall in difficulty like his caution for a foul on Thomasson (19th). Replaced by Maamma (64th)

Omeragic (4): Still installed in midfield, he had trouble positioning himself against his Lens counterparts who were coming in behind him. Returned to the central axis of a five-man defense after the break, he was more comfortable, making a decisive counterattack in front of Koyalipou (58th).

Chotard (3):Like his Swiss alter ego, he struggled against the Lens midfield with few recoveries. It was a little better at the end of the first half and at the start of the second where we saw more with the ball, including a shot that went wide (47th). It remains insufficient.

Tamari (3): He struggled to exist in the game against a team that had the ball. We will note a double contact at the start of the action which led to the goal disallowed for Fayad (45th + 3). He crossed his shot too much afterwards (46th). Down compared to his last performances.

Savanier (4): He was very active at the start of the match, coming back to get the ball very low, in particular to look for Delort in depth. He was present in the duels but was not able to be decisive.

Fayad (3): For his first start since September 28, 2024 in Monaco, he struggled to exist in the left attacking midfield position, especially since his team did not have the ball. A little better after the break positioned in front of the defense but we expect more. Replaced by Rabby Nzingoula (70th).

Delort (4): For his return to La Mosson since August 22, 2021, he especially showed his desire and commitment in duels (11 won in the first half) with in particular deflections of the head. He was offside at the start of the action of the goal disallowed to Fayad (45th + 3). Replaced by Khazri (64th).

Gasset (3): His team was tactically dominated by Will Still with his pistons and his midfielders who came in behind the Montpellier players. It was better with the change to five in the second half but it is a defeat that stops the good series of two victories.
