IN BRIEF

  • Véronique Jannot, famous for her role in Pause Café, was victim of a scam orchestrated by a Swiss trader, involving around 70 people.
  • The fake trader promised returns of 6% to 12% and continued to spend the stolen money with his wife, accumulating luxury goods before being arrested.
  • Véronique Jannot describes this scam as a “hard blow at all levels” in the columns of Le Parisien.

A hard blow for the former heroine of Pause Café. According to our colleagues at Parisien, Véronique Jannot was allegedly scammed by a Swiss trader, a man described as “nice” and “trustworthy.”

In this case, about 70 victims, were allegedly duped by this man who had set up a real Ponzi scheme: a financial scheme, revealed in the Bernard Madoff affair, which consists of remunerating clients' investments essentially with funds provided by new entrants. To convince his victims, the fake trader allegedly promised returns that were far from exaggerated, between 6% and 12%. In 2019, a first victim, wanting to recover 300,000 euros, filed a complaint. In total, between 8 and 15 million euros were allegedly stolen from the victims.

Véronique Jannot swindled: the trader and his wife spent without counting

According to Le Parisien, the first complaints will be handled late by the Swiss authorities, leaving the fake trader free to spend the stolen money. With his wife, he will thus continue to squander his victims' money, going as far as to spend 100,000 euros per month.

During searches of the couple's home, the police will get their hands on 215 pairs of shoes and 415 handbags luxury hand. According to information from La Tribune de Genève, the criminal was placed in provisional detention last May and will not be released until at least April.

Véronique Jannot swindled: “a hard blow at all levels”

If the name of Véronique Jannot has leaked in the list of victims, the actress prefers not to dwell on the subject. Contacted byLe Parisien, the one who granted us a interview-confession in October 2023 speaks this time of a hard blow at all levels. In 2024, she admitted to having been “sometimes naive in love and friendship”, which had “sometimes played tricks on her.”

At 67, Véronique Jannot sails between Paris and the Haut Var. As she confided to Gala a few months ago, she admits to loving living “like a savage” in the south of France, among rivers and olive trees, far from social life.
