She wanted to set the record straight. Participating in a livestream at an event in Los Angeles, Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, wanted to defend the streaming platform against all those who believe that it no longer offers quality content.
As reported by Business Insider, the executive attacked what she calls a “myth”. The idea that the entertainment giant is no longer creating “prestige” programs.
She explains: “The most annoying thing about this myth – besides the fact that it's not true – is that no one really knows what “prestige television” is. Is it a critically acclaimed series ? As a reminder, many observers have criticized the deterioration in the quality of series in recent years. This is particularly the case of the American critic Peter Biskind in his book Pandora Box. According to the latter, the emergence of these services initially allowed many niches to prosper and bold ideas to come to fruition.
However, he believes that this golden age is over and that platforms now offer more formatted content without taking risks. Moreover, Netflix no longer hesitates to cancel productions mid-stream if they do not perform as well as hoped.
