The striking CHU staff are still angry

#MONTPELLIER – Several dozen emergency staff demonstrated this Wednesday morning at the Montpellier CHU. The message “Striking staff assigned to work” was plastered on their coats. Since the 180 visits per day recorded during the end-of-year holidays, management has taken a series of measures (reopening of downstream beds, provision of pediatric boxes, reinforcement of a nursing assistant pair, etc.).“These measures are insufficient,” deplores Pierre Renard, CGT-CHU delegate. “As long as there is no recruitment, the strike will continue.” According to the union, emergency services recorded 63,600 visits in 2024, 5,500 more than in 2023.

Throwing flour at a member of parliament: suspended sentence requested

#ALÈS – The Alès public prosecutor requested on Wednesday a 4 to 5-month suspended prison sentence and a €500 fine against a man who threw flour at Gard MP Allegret-Pilot (UDR). In October, the elected official was walking around the Cévennes apple and sweet onion fair in Le Vigan when the defendant threw onion jam and flour at him to indicate that he was “not welcome”. The prosecution considered that this was “violence”. The MP's lawyer considered that by attacking the elected representative of the Republic, the defendant had “attacked the people of Gard”. The defense, for its part, requested that the facts be reclassified as contempt. The court took time to think about it and will give its decision on March 4.

Car thieves caught by the police

#BÉZIERS – Bézier police investigators have solved a case of “home-jacking”, thefts committed at private homes. A suspect was arrested on Tuesday and his alleged accomplices on Wednesday. All were brought before the public prosecutor. They are suspected of seven thefts, committed in Béziers and Sète, as well as two attempted thefts. The facts date back to November 2024, when four thefts and one attempted theft were reported in Béziers. Each time, the modus operandi was the same: in the middle of the night, the individuals broke into the home and stole the vehicle keys before driving off with them. These were luxury cars that were later found in good condition in a car park in Montpellier. An initial arrest of two individuals in a stolen car, then samples taken from the vehicles, the examination of video surveillance images and telephone call records, allowed us to catch the suspects, all from Béziers and aged around twenty.

#AUDE –In months, the time it took for a letter to reach its recipient, a resident of Lavalette, near Carcassonne in the Aude. The Lavalette post office is barely 5 km from the Carcassonne sorting center. On January 22, other residents received letters postmarked in October and November, according to La Dépêche du Midi. The reason ? A postman was no longer doing his rounds. Hundreds of letters were thus discovered. In short, patience…

Archaeological divers in the Hérault River

#AGDE – Archaeological divers have begun a new prospecting campaign in the Hérault River in Agde. Last year, evidence of the city's first inhabitants, 7,000 years ago, was found. This year, research has brought up ceramics, flints and animal bones with the aim of discovering what these first farmers cultivated. The campaign, which should last another ten days, will also explore other sites, particularly in the direction of Bessan.
