A septuagenarian lost his life in a Montreal hospital after being hit by at least one firearm projectile late Monday evening in the parking lot of a restaurant in the northwest of the city .

The attack happened around 11:15 p.m. in the parking lot of' a restaurant located on Boulevard Marcel-Laurin, near the intersection of Boulevard Thimens, in the borough of Saint-Laurent.

The victim, a 71-year-old man, was hit in the upper body.

One or more suspects allegedly fired shots in the direction of the victim, who was alone in a vehicle, explained Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM). The suspects fled before the police arrived.

The police were alerted by a call made to 911. They had the opportunity to question witnesses. Early Tuesday, no arrests had yet been reported.

One or more suspects allegedly fired shots at the victim, who was alone in a vehicle, explained Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the City of Montreal Police Department.

A security perimeter has been installed near the building housing the restaurant and a section of Boulevard Marcel-Laurin has been closed to traffic.

Forensic identification technicians and SPVM investigators analyze the crime scene. The police will attempt to collect other information that could have been recorded by surveillance cameras.
