Ce vendredi 17 janvier, dans la salle des mariages de la mairie de Béziers, sept jeunes marins ont signé leur contrat d’engagement.

There are seven of them, Lucas, Bayardgo, Hugo, Léo, Rafaël, Nicolas and a second Lucas. They are between 18 and 24 years old. They signed their 2 to 10-year commitment contract this Friday, January 17, for a future career in the navy.

The ceremony took place in the wedding room of the town hall, “commitment room” for the mayor of Béziers. Lieutenant-Colonel Savy, surrounded by Commander Beauvais, Chief Petty Officer Brault and the flag bearers, welcomed the seven young people and their families with kindness.

“Être fiers”

He called on the young people to be proud of having successfully completed the academic and physical training to be selected and able to join the Navy, but also of having opted for a life of Service, and not of servitude. He recalled the words that would now guide their lives: honor, homeland, value and discipline. He called on them to “be the driving force of their lives, to overcome challenges and to work hard to successfully make the transition from civilian life to military life.”

He ended his speech by wishing them “fair winds and safe seas.” After the signatures and photos, an aperitif brought together officials, young people and families, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters proud of the path taken by the young people.

All reported that this commitment was a carefully prepared choice, already by school programs. With this in mind, Nicolas, for example, has successfully completed the BTS digital system, Lucas a professional aerotechnical baccalaureate or Hugo, a DEUG sciences and techniques. Others have more winding paths like Bayardgo who has a welding CAP. All have successfully completed selective physical tests and rigorous health tests, mandatory to enlist. This type of ceremony, which marks a high point in the commitment of young people, will be repeated. Éric Vialade, Head of Navy military preparation in Béziers, currently supervises 24 young people, including 5 girls, to allow them to discover the diversity of possible careers in the Navy.
