The accident between the two trams occurred this Saturday, January 11. At least 100 people were involved, about fifty people were evacuated and 15 were taken to hospital.
According to information from BFMTV, two trams collided at Strasbourg station this Saturday, January 11, around 3:30 p.m. According to our colleagues, the collision was due to a switching error.
According to BFM, around fifty people were injured in relative emergencies. Among them, 15 were evacuated to hospital. “The tram derailed and hit the one coming the other way,” explained a witness to our colleagues from the local newspaper Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace.
“Numerous resources” were deployed by the firefighters and “significant “Disruptions” are expected across the city's entire tramway network, SDIS 67 said on Twitter. Emmanuel Auneau, director of the Strasbourg public transport company, “the drivers are shocked but not seriously injured”. According to him, one of the trains would have “descended abruptly”.
The mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, went to the scene “alongside the injured and the rescue workers” she wrote in a post on X. The latter explains that the shock was “brutal” and that it was due to a tram that had “gone into reverse”.
