Some 830 people gathered this Wednesday, January 29th in Paloma for the wishes of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Gard.
“This speech is not a call for pessimism, but for action, lucidity and courage.” In front of a packed Paloma room, the president of the CCI of Gard, Eric Giraudier, did not want to make any secret of the difficulties encountered on a daily basis by the players in the economic world. Highlighting in particular a “central problem of the current economic model: an excess of standards and taxation that stifles initiative and hinders competitiveness”.
The proliferation of standards is perceived by 35% of business leaders as a major obstacle to their development

Recalling that with “a rate of compulsory levies close to 45.4% of GDP in 2024, France is one of the most taxed countries in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which has 38 member countries around the world, Editor's note) well above the average of other countries (34.1%)”. For Eric Giraudier, the observation is clear: “This tax pressure, combined with persistent inflation, is holding back investment, innovation and work.”Daring to draw a parallel with Dry January (“month without alcohol”), the president of the CCI called for a “normative sobriety”: “The proliferation of standards is perceived by 35% of business leaders as a major obstacle to their development.”
Also paying tribute to Pierre Gamel, a resistance fighter deported to Buchenwald and former president of the CCI du Gard as we celebrate this year the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camps, Eric Giraudier urged the 830 participants at this evening to “a collective responsibility to transform current challenges into opportunities. The French economy has the human, industrial and creative resources to meet these challenges. Together, let us rise to these challenges.” ambitions”.
Concerning the territory, the president of the CCI focused on the Gard 2030 study, which is supposed to “bring together businesses and local stakeholders to build a shared vision of the future of Gard, aiming to make it a model of sustainable development”. And Eric Giraudier concluded by stating that if “2025 is going to be a complicated year, where things are going to be rocky, in these moments, the chamber of commerce is not used to hiding but will be there by your side”. To be continued then.
