L’association “Espoir pour un enfant Hérault” se mobilise pour venir en aide financièrement à une Béninoise âgée de dix-huit mois, qui souffre de graves problèmes de santé.

The association “Espoir pour un enfant Hérault” has set itself the goal of providing care to children suffering from serious illnesses and who do not have access to it. This is how children are operated on in their country, particularly in Bali, and others come to undergo operations at the Montpellier University Hospital, with which the association has signed an agreement.

With around thirty children treated per year, a large number of them have benefited from care thanks to the association founded in 1977. Today, the children who come to France for surgery mainly come from Africa.

A new operation is necessary

This is how Nicolas Souquet-Bressand, a professional firefighter in Hérault, and his wife Laurie have been foster parents for four years for children who come for surgery.

“Currently, we have at home Fierté, a little 18-month-old girl from Benin who suffers from hydrocephalus, he explains. That is to say that the cerebrospinal fluid stagnates in the brain instead of being evacuated, which disrupts the functioning cerebral.”

The little girl was successfully operated on the day after her arrival in France, by Dr. Thomas Roujeau, in Gui-de-Chauliac. “But a complication requires a new operation, which involves €20,000 in costs for our association made up of 100% volunteers.”
