They were created a little over 20 years ago now, the World Car Awards are recognized globally as a symbol of excellence, and aim to celebrate the greatest achievements in the industry automobile. For this 2024 batch, we have known for a few weeks the three finalists, namely the Kia EV9 SUV, the Volvo EX30 and finally the BYD Seal. And it's Kia's 100% electric family SUV that (barely) won.

Kia EV9: the World Car 2024& ;#8230; and the World Electric Car 2024!

Indeed, the jury (made up of 100 international journalists) having been particularly sensitive to the interior of this Kia EV9, allowed the SUV to outperform the competition with a total score of 809 points, compared to 804 for the Volvo EX30 and 774 for BYD's Chinese Seal electric car.

Remember that the Kia EV9 is an XXL SUV, whose comfort is worthy of that of a living room. With a size measuring 5 meters long, 1.98 meters wide and 1.78 meters high (and 2.5 tonnes on the scale), the Kia EV9 is a monster of the road, available with 204 hp of power in its base version, and 385 hp in GT-Line version.

This triumph demonstrates our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design excellence. The continued success of the Kia EV9 will drive us to continue delivering exceptional vehicles that redefine the driving experience for customers around the world, said Ho Sung Song, president and general manager of Kia.

And the height of happiness for Kia, in addition to winning the title of “World Car 2024” , the EV9 also won that of the “World Electric Car 2024”, against the Volvo EX30 and the BMW i5 (which for its part won the title of “ Luxury Car 2024”).

This is not Kia's first victory at the World Car Awards, since the manufacturer had already been crowned with its Telluride and Soul EV models in 2020 and the EV6 GT in 2023.< /p>

Recall that the Hyundai group (of which Kia is a part) has just announced a vast $50 billion plan in Korea to accelerate in the electric segment. The Korean manufacturer's goal is to become the third largest manufacturer of electric cars by 2030.
