When we talk about AI PCs, we think of computers with features based on generative intelligence, such as the “Copilot+” computers running Windows, or Macs that will be compatible with Apple Intelligence. But Lenovo wanted to go even further, by imagining a laptop that, in addition to exploiting artificial intelligence, has a robotic hinge. Called Auto-Twist AI PC, the concept presented by the brand at the IFA in Berlin could be considered a useless gadget by some, or the ultimate productivity tool by others.
The Auto-Twist uses a voice command system that allows the user to ask the AI to close or open the lid, or switch to tablet mode. Otherwise, the machine would also have a sensor that detects the user's absence, and automatically closes the lid.
And that's not all: when in use, Lenovo's concept is able to follow its user, thanks to its rotating and robotic screen. This can be useful for people who give presentations via videoconference, for example. But Lenovo also explains that thanks to this tracking, Auto-Twist also encourages the user to adopt good ergonomics at work.

Unfortunately, or not, this is still just a proof of concept, not a commercial product.
In any case, Lenovo's Auto-Twist concept recalls a rumor that recently circulated about a future Apple product. In an article published in August, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman indicated that Apple would have several hundred engineers working on a product similar to Amazon's Echo Show connected display. To stand out, this connected display for the home would have a robotic support that would allow it to make 360-degree rotations to follow the user. So, a person who is cooking could use this connected device to follow a recipe, while always having the screen in their field of vision.
