Apple is still in search of its “ next big thing “. Because it is clear that none of its products has shaken up a market as much as the 'iPhone. According to several very well-informed analysts, the Apple brand is now preparing to enter a new technological era, with a significant diversification of its hardware portfolio.

Projects in augmented reality

The abandonment of the Apple Car, a project on which the company worked for a decade, left its mark internally, highlighting the need to focus on other types of products. Added to this are the low sales of the Vision Pro, which Apple had nevertheless anticipated due to the cost of the device.

But it seems to have changed its tune in this area as well. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo explained that the development of a more affordable headset was delayed beyond 2027. The Cupertino firm would thus have favored the production of a second high-end device, equipped with its next M5 chip.

Upstream, it would also be developing augmented reality glasses, like the latest developments at Meta. This is a trend in the industry, this technology being considered by some as the successor to the smartphone. In this perspective, the first product signed by Apple should be used as a complement to the iPhone.

Apple is taking a close interest in home automation

The Californian giant is also focusing on more modest projects, likely to generate income equivalent to those of its iPads or its ” wearables ” (Apple Watch, AirPods, etc.). Thus, the home automation sector is emerging as a potential golden goose for Apple.

A brand new product is reportedly in the works for launch as early as March 2025: A smart wall screen. This should serve as a command center for the connected home, including device control, as well as FaceTime and security and intercom features. It should also incorporate Apple Intelligence. Even more surprisingly, a more sophisticated version with a robotic arm capable of moving the screen is also said to be in development.

A major challenge

Nothing is decided yet. Because it is not guaranteed that Apple's arrival on this market will be crowned with success. The competition is already tough, with well-established players. So much so that some analysts say they are skeptical about the idea of seeing the company triumph in home automation.

The stakes are high, however. The company is more dependent than ever on its iPhone, but it must diversify further to avoid seeing its rivals grab market share. The legacy of Tim Cook, who has been at its helm for 13 years now, depends on it.

  • Apple wants to diversify its product range.
  • Augmented reality and home automation are among the markets in which it wants to invest.
  • New devices from Apple are expected in the coming years.
