The company Taiwanese TSMC announces the imminent arrival of a new generation of processors that will boost the performance and autonomy of our future electronic devices. As a reminder, this is the company that manufactures iPhone and Mac processors for Apple. TSMC also produces chips for Qualcomm and Mediatek, which are among the main chip suppliers for the Android ecosystem.

Recently, TSMC updated its website to provide new information about the next generation of chips: 2nm or N2 chips. “TSMC’s N2 technology will be the most advanced in the semiconductor industry in terms of both density and power efficiency when it is introduced in 2025,”, the website reads.

Compared to current technologies, N2 chips will have a higher transistor density, which will boost performance. Furthermore, this development will also reduce the energy consumption of processors, which will have an impact on the autonomy of devices.

Future N2 processors are already being designed

TSMC also indicates that its main customers have already finalized the design of their 2nm chips, and are in the process of validating these designs. The Taiwanese company estimates that production should begin in 2025. It is very possible that the iPhone will be among the first products to benefit from this technological advance. Indeed, when TSMC began producing chips engraved in 3nm, the Cupertino company was the first to benefit from this technology.

Otherwise, in addition to iPhones and Android smartphones, the PC market should also benefit from the improvements offered by TSMC's N2 technology. Indeed, the Taiwanese company also produces Mac chips. And it can produce the future Arm chips that Qualcomm will offer for Windows PCs.

  • Chipmaker TSMC has just shared some more information about its 2nm or N2 chips, which will boost the performance of electronic products, especially smartphones
  • TSMC makes iPhone and Mac chips for Apple, and Qualcomm and Mediatek are also among its customers
  • According to the Taiwanese company, the new 2nm chips have already been designed and its customers are reportedly validating the new designs
  • Production will start in 2025
